Hunt Test Training Day

Wolf River Game Farm
Shiocton, WI

Message from our President:

I am not exactly sure where to start with an overall recap of our recent Club sponsored training day. Steve Larareck and I offered to spearhead the event in an ongoing effort to offer support to our Club members regarding hunt tests. We quite frankly did not know what to expect, or how it would go.

We agreed beforehand that we would create an inviting, helpful environment and would attempt to aid owners and their dogs in whatever way possible. We started by setting up an AKC Spaniel test and met with everyone beforehand to review what is expected at each level. We had hoped to introduce a test scenario for our working certificate tests as well, but we simply ran out of time. The hours went by very quickly.

We had seven young dogs participate that had never been introduced to any field work or bird contact. By the end of the training session each of these dogs had been taught to quarter, engage a bird, and experience an actual simulated test. We feel that this was a huge success.

For those that had dogs that where more advanced, we spent time observing issues and offered possible solutions based on our experience. We hope that we were helpful. There was plenty of participation from all the members in attendance. People had an opportunity to socialize, observe and learn from each other.

All in all this training weekend can be viewed as a success. We will hope that all that attended left with a better understanding of things that can be worked on with themselves and their dogs.
