Standards

HEIGHT    Dogs and bitches  15” to 18”

General Appearance - Active, muscular all-around hunting dog, medium size, slightly longer than tall, not too square or compact with a marcel wave to curly coat.  No preference for size within a given range of either sex providing correct proportion, good substance nad balance is maintained.  Emphasis to be placed on size, symmetry and texture of coat and color. 

Head - Moderate length with alert self - confident expression.

  • Skull - Broad and full with moderately defined stop

  • Muzzle - Moderate length, square with good depth.

  • Bite - Scissor or level.  

  • Ears - Lobular, long, wide and set slightly above the eye line.

  • Eyes - Set well apart, slightly rounded with tight lids, should harmonize with the color of the coat. Eyes that are bright yellow color of a lemon to disqualify - do not confuse with the acceptable light yellowish brown color. 

  • Nose - Black or dark brown, well developed nostrils. 

Body - Well-developed, sturdily constructed but not too compactly coupled, level, or slightly sloping topline, brisket extending to the elbow.  Well - sprung ribs and strong loin 

Coat - Ranges from marcel (uniform waves) to closely curled.  Undercoat is important.
Tail  Moderate length, rocker fashion curved, carried slightly below or above back level, lively and covered to the tip with moderate feathering. 

Color - Either solid liver, brown, or dark chocolate.  A little white on toes and chest is permissible. 

Gait - Good reach and drive.  Hind legs are well-muscled, show power and strength when moving. 

DISQUALIFICATIONS

  • Yellow eyes.
